'Cool Globes' on Parade

Reduse, Reuse, Recycle

Artists: Mitch Levin and Baris Taser

Traditionally, the three Rs meant reading, 'riting, and 'rithmetic. Now many people interpret it as an environmental axiom: reduce, reuse, and recycle. Practicing the three Rs means producing less waste and greenhouse gas, purchasing only what is needed and using all of what is purchased, as well as choosing reusable products and finding new uses for old goods.

In a playful application of the three Rs, Mitch Levin and Baris Taser attached over 2,000 used toy cars, donated by children, to create the black-and-white checkered pattern on their globe. The artists reduced their electricity consumption by using pneumatic tools whenever possible. The continents are made from recycled, polished aluminum and include environmental facts etched on the land to encourage everyone to join the race to save the planet.

Sponsor: General Iron Industries, Inc.

I like this globe because of the checkered flag. It has the matchbox cars all over on the earth

The location is "exhibition" by the Field & Shedd Museums
